Central Coast
Spanning along the California Pacific coastline, this AVA travels from south of the San Francisco Bay Area all the way down to Santa Barbara County. Sharing the same maritime climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean there are over six counties and multiple AVAs within the Central Coast AVA boundaries. Established back in 1985 this area is has over 100,000 acres and while over half of it is being cultivated with Chardonnay, we find incredible gems of Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Grenache as well as little known varietals hosted. While typically Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grow well with the ocean influence, the further inland you go in this AVA, the hotter the daytime temperatures get and it really allows for a diversity of grapes to grow well.
